Interval training is exercising in a way that alternates periods of exercise with periods of rest. It can be done in a variety of ways, and while using a variety fitness equipment.

Some people do interval training with bodyweight exercises, some people use weights or exercise bands, and some people use it for walking and running outside or indoors on a treadmill.

If you’re interested in interval training on a treadmill, there are four different ways that you can achieve it.

Increase and decrease speed manually

Interval training on a treadmill can be done by running on the treadmill while adjusting the speed manually.

You can run for a set amount of time or for as long as you can, and then you can decrease the speed for a slower interval. If you alternate a faster pace with a slower pace, you are doing interval training.

You could alternate between jogging and walking, or for a higher intensity workout you could alternate between running and jogging.

Just be sure to pay attention to how you’re feeling, and adjust if you get too tired to keep up the fast pace. You don’t want to fall while on the treadmill. Take advantage of rest periods.

Increase and decrease elevation manually

Another option to do interval training on a treadmill is to manually adjust the incline.

You can do one interval using a high incline, and then when you need to rest, you can do an interval with the treadmill in the flat position.

If you want to you can play around with the incline and do random heights for your intervals. You can also choose to mix up both the elevation and speed.

And if you prefer you can do intervals with the elevation increasing a little for each interval. It will become more difficult with each interval.

You can also reverse that and do the higher incline first, decreasing the incline slightly with each interval.

These are great to do with timed intervals.

Use one of the automatic interval programs on the treadmill

If you want a more automated way to do interval training on a treadmill, you can choose from the pre-programmed selections available on your treadmill.

There are usually a few different options of varying difficulty.

Just be sure you choose something that works for your fitness level. Most treadmills will also let you override the automatic programs manually if you need to.

Alternate using the treadmill and doing another exercise

If you want some variety, you can use the treadmill for one interval, and then do another exercise for the next interval.

Alternating between the treadmill and another exercise will help you add some variety to your workout.

It will also help you get a more complete workout, especially if you alternate weight training with running on the treadmill for your interval training workout.

Doing interval training is a great way to improve your fitness level.

It can be used with exercises using weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, and exercise bands.

It can also be used with bodyweight exercises, and as you can see above it can be used with running or walking outside or inside.

You can use interval training on the elliptical, exercise bike, or the treadmill.

While using the treadmill, you can change the speed and elevation to create your intervals and keep your workout exciting.
