If you want to live a fuller, healthier, and longer life then you have to exercise regularly, there is simply no way around this.

Exercise, alongside eating right, has long been known to be the best way to live longer, but have you ever considered exactly why that is?

In this article, we’re going to look at some of the more important reasons why exercise is able to make you healthier and thus live longer.

It Helps Lower LDL Cholesterol Levels

One of the main benefits of exercise is that it lowers LDL cholesterol levels.

LDL stands for low-density lipoprotein. LDL cholesterol is the “bad” cholesterol that causes things like heart disease, strokes, heart attacks, etc.

The reason lowering LDL cholesterol levels makes you live longer is because it helps lower your chances of getting heart disease.

Heart disease is one of the major killers in the West, and it only gets more dangerous the older one gets.

By helping to keep your LDL cholesterol levels in check, exercise helps to keep you safe from one of the biggest killers around.

It Helps You Sleep Better

Another major benefit of exercise is how it improves your sleep quality.

Sleep is so important for living a healthy life because it affects every part of your body.

Sleep is when your cells repair themselves after a long day.

Your immune system also relies heavily on sleep to ready itself to protect against diseases and infections.

It Helps You Manage Stress

Stress is like a silent killer. Excessive stress puts a tremendous strain on your entire body, but your heart in particular.

This leads to years being taken off your life.

If you’ve ever seen pictures of US Presidents before they take office and after, then you’ve seen the toll that stress can take on the human body.

Exercise is a great stress management technique and can literally save your life because of it.

It Can Lower Your Risk Of Cancer

Cancer is another disease, that much like heart disease, tends to take a lot of people before their time.

So, anything that you can do to lower your chances of getting cancer will help you to live longer.

Scientific studies have shown that exercise can help reduce your chances of developing certain kinds of cancer.

More specifically, exercise helps to reduce the chances of getting cancer in the stomach, intestines, and other areas related to the digestive system.

Can Exercise Really Help Reduce Cancer Risk?

We all know that exercise does helpful things like reducing your waistline, trim fat off your stomach, strengthen your muscles, and much more.

However, what if exercise could also help reduce your risk of developing various kinds of cancer?

While the scientific consensus is still working out the exact details, more and more credible studies are showing that living an active lifestyle is associated with a decreased risk of at least thirteen different types of cancer.

In this article, you will see some of the science behind this important discovery.

Exercise and Reducing the Risk of Cancer

A study done in 2016 by the National Cancer Institute examined two very big groups of people.

One group led what most would consider to be “active lives,” which obviously includes regular exercise.

On the other hand, the other group got very little exercise.

The study found that the group that exercised regularly had lower rates of cancer in the bladder, the head, the blood, the throat, the lungs, the colon, and the breast.

So, as you can see, on the surface there is at least some evidence to support the idea that exercising regularly can decrease your chances of developing cancer in these areas.

What Does the Study Mean When They Say “Exercise”

Of course, you may be curious as to what the study means by “exercise,” after all, it’s a very broad term.

Well, as an article published by the American Cancer Society says, even just 30-minutes of exercise per day can help lower your risk of developing the types of cancers mentioned previously (and that’s not even mentioning the many other helpful benefits).

The Final Verdict

So, now that we have looked at some of the evidence showing that yes, exercise does reduce your risk of getting cancer, we have to go back to the original question.

While there are studies that show that exercise can reduce your risk of developing cancer, they aren’t conclusive, and they don’t explain why or how exercise reduces cancer risk.

For example, it’s possible that the reason people who exercise a lot have reduced cancer risks because they also live healthier lifestyles in general.

However, think about it this way, exercising is so good for you, that even if it doesn’t reduce your risk of developing cancer, it helps you live a healthier lifestyle overall.

So, even if the actual science behind exercising and cancer reduction isn’t known, you should still be exercising regularly.
