The Paleo Diet, also known as the Caveman Diet, is one of the most popular diets all over the world. It’s also one of the best diets to be on. However, it’s truly hardcore and not for everyone.

If you decide to get on the paleo diet, you really need to read this article and see if this diet is a right fit for you or if it will make you scream like a rabid caveman.

The paleo diet is harsh. While most diets have restrictions, these are usually not severe. For example, with the Zone Diet, you need to follow a ratio of carbs, proteins and fats. However, for the most part, you’re allowed to eat whatever you want as long as you follow the ratio and eat in moderation.

The paleo diet, however, totally does not allow certain foods such as:

* Starches
* Dairy
* Legumes
* Alcohol
* Grains
* Processed Food & Sugars

The moment you eliminate these foods from your diet, your diet choices become severely limited. You will need to cook for yourself since most restaurants use processed ingredients. Sugar creeps into most foods, so these are out too.

While this diet is very effective for weight loss, it requires a lot of planning and sacrifice. For someone who has a sweet tooth or a habit of binging on junk food or processed food, making the switch to a paleo diet will be a Herculean task.

Sometimes it may just seem too much to endure and they’ll quit. Generally, it’s best for beginners who are just starting their weight loss quest to give this harsh diet a pass. Once they’ve lost a chunk of weight and have better eating habits, they’ll be able to slowly ease into the paleo diet and cope with it much easier.

Usually, hardcore athletes such as Crossfitters swear by the Paleo diet because it is rich in protein and the idea that it is hardcore fits in with the whole Crossfit mindset of pushing oneself to his or her max. It’s a lifestyle and mindset that the average person trying to lose weight just does not have.

You will need to know where you’re coming from. If you’re about 8 pounds overweight and have generally good eating habits, you will be able to cope with the paleo diet for the most part and tear off the excess fat.

If you’re 35 pounds overweight and love guzzling down beers, you’ll first need to drop 20 pounds or so with a sensible eating plan and regular exercise before even thinking of embarking on the paleo diet.

This diet has one of the highest attrition rates because people get carried away by the hype and think that they can handle it. Once they realize that they can’t eat most of the foods they love, coping with the diet becomes a nightmare. Furthermore, in the paleo diet, you are often told to eat animal organs, etc. Many people balk at the thought of eating innards. None of this bodes well as far as complying with the diet goes.

Know where you stand and proceed sensibly with your diet. Do not pick a diet that will be too tough for you… and the paleo diet is as tough as they come. It’s effective but it’s also unforgiving.

If you want to lose weight without losing your mind, all you need to do is aim for a daily caloric deficit of 500 calories daily and go for a 30 minute brisk walk every day. The weight will come off slowly but surely. You can include resistance training and the occasional HIIT workout to speed things up. You will still lose weight without torturing yourself. Losing weight doesn’t have to be torturous.
