The Master Cleanse also known as the Lemonade Diet has stood the test of time. Introduced in 1940, this diet is still as popular today and while it is not the ideal diet, it does have its place and time as far as your fat loss journey is concerned.
Before understanding why you need to use a Master Cleanse, you need to understand the theory behind it. You may have noticed in several weight loss reality shows that they put the contestants through a 1 to 3-day detox program before they commence with the training program. Usually the Master Cleanse is used.
The theory behind it is that fat cells bind toxins in the body to protect you and as long as the toxins are present, the body will be reluctant to burn fat. Even if the body burnt the fat, the toxins would now be present in your body and you’d become sick.
By putting yourself through the Master Cleanse, you would detoxify your body and prime it for weight loss. Your body will be much more ready to lose the excess fat and it’s like you’re cleansed out and ready to go.
Some fitness gurus state that the liver in the body is more than capable of detoxifying the body without any cleanses. However, it will take longer. Whether or not the Master Cleanse is effective is still yet to be decided but thousands upon thousands have tried it and swear by it.
The duration of the Master Cleanse or Lemonade Diet can last for 3 to 10 days, depending on which one you’re buying. Many people make a mistake of going for a 10-day cleanse because it promises drastic weight loss. Yes… you will lose weight but this is not a good form of weight loss.
During the Lemonade Diet, you will be drinking 6 to 12 glasses of lemonade daily. It all depends on which type of Lemonade Diet program you purchase. There are many that are sold commercially. Some have a salt water flush in the morning. Some have nightly detox teas, etc.
The key point to note here is that the Lemonade Diet is good for 1 to 3 days if you wish to cleanse your body. It’s not necessary, but it can’t hurt. Your goal should be to cleanse your body and not to lose weight with this method.
Far too many people look at the Lemonade Diet as a way to lose weight. Even celebrities have endorsed it and people have followed this diet blindly. Firstly, the diet is not sustainable. Secondly, it causes nutrient deficiencies and slows down your metabolic rate. Thirdly, once you go back to normal food, your body will make up for lost time and gain back whatever weight it lost and then some.
Anyone with common sense will realize that you can’t live on lemonade forever. What happens when you start eating food that contains more calories than lemonade? Yes… you will gain weight and this will depress you.
People often sacrifice common sense because they’re desperate to lose the weight fast. The Lemonade Diet is a fad diet just like the Cabbage Soup Diet. It will not work in the long run.
You may be happy with the short term results… but depression will set in when the weight comes back. The best way to burn off your excess fat and keep it off will be to go on a sensible diet like the Mediterranean Diet, maintain a caloric deficit of about 500 calories daily and to exercise consistently.
If you get the foundations in place, not only will you lose the weight successfully, but your body will adapt to the food it’s given and the quantities it gets. You will not see sudden weight fluctuations and you’ll be able to maintain your weight effectively without resorting to diets that are unhealthy and torturous.
Use the Lemonade Diet with caution and for not more than 3 days. That’s it in a nutshell.
