It seems like no matter what it is we’re doing, everyone is looking for some kind of trick or shortcut to save them time and effort. There aren’t always these magic shortcuts available to us, but luckily cooking is one of those great hobbies that has plenty of neat tricks you can use to make it faster and easier. Especially if you don’t have a lot of time to spend every day on your meals, these tips will make it a snap to prep your ingredients, get your meals finished, and have them ready for you and your family to enjoy!

1. Cook all at once, freeze portions.

This is a great tip for those of you out there with a specific weight loss plan that requires particular portions. It takes a little bit of time to get ready, but the amount of time and effort you save in the long run is vastly worth it. Simply cook a big batch of whatever you like (soup or stew is easiest, but you can also do it with steamed veggies and meaty meals as well), portion it up some Tupperware into one meal’s worth of food, and toss it in your freezer for later. When comes time to eat all you have to do is toss it into the microwave and you’ve got a perfectly portioned meal ready to go.

2. Freeze ingredients, too!

Speaking of using your freezer, you can cut down on prep time by having your ingredients ready to go ahead of time. This works particularly well with sauces and broths, but you can do it with just about anything. Just take a little time to prepare your ingredients beforehand and then store them in your freezer until you’re ready to use them. They’ll usually heat along with the rest of the ingredients in your meal, but even if you need to thaw them out before you cook all you’ll need to do is take them out the morning you plan on making that particular meal and the work will have already been done to prepare them.

3. Cook lighter and fresher!

Sometimes the easiest part of cooking is simply not cooking at all! It can also be the freshest part, too! Using fresh vegetables in meal ideas like chef salads is quick and easy because they require little to no preparation to have ready to eat. A lot of the time all you really have to do is wash your veggies and they’ll be ready to put on your plate. Never underestimate the healthy power of adding some garden fresh greens to your meal!

So the next time you’re wondering what to make for dinner, take some of these tips to heart and be ready with a healthy, fresh meal right out of the gate.

Top Tools for Cooking Healthy Faster

Everyone only has so much time to spend in a day. You have to get up, go to work, take care of responsibilities at home, spend time with the family… the list goes on and on. The one thing that it always seems like we don’t have as much time to spend on as we’d like is making sure that we have delicious, healthy meals to enjoy. Food is a huge part of staying fit and losing weight, but without much time to spend in cooking it can be easy to cave in and go for fast food or eating out with something unhealthy because it’s quicker. Don’t hurt your weight loss plan by caving in, cook faster and healthier with some of these great tools.

1. The Slow Cooker

Now you might be wondering how something with slow right in the name can help you eat healthier and cook faster, but when you think about it the slow cooker is the perfect way to get food ready quickly on time. Most slow cooker recipes just need you to toss all of the ingredients in at the beginning of the day, set it up, and let it go until your meal is ready hours later. How does this help you cook faster you might ask? Well what’s faster than just being able to come home to the kitchen after spending all day out and about and serving up a delicious meal without an ounce of additional effort?

2. The Digital Steamer

Digital steamers are great because they’re everything you need in a steaming appliance with the precision of digital programming. With a digital steamer you can set up some fresh veggies, fish, or whatever else you might want to get steamed (either an entire meal or simply a fresh side dish), set up the temperature and time, and let it go. When the timer dings you have a fresh plate of effortlessly and deliciously steamed food ready to go on the table. Pair with a rice cooker to have veggies or meat and rice hot and ready whenever you are!

3. The Food Processor

One of the difficult and most involved parts of preparing a meal is, well, preparing it! It can take a lot of time getting your ingredients ready, but a good food processor can cut the amount of time you spend chopping, slicing, and shredding down to just a fraction of what it usually is. You can buy them as a stand-alone unit or as an attachment for some other brands of kitchen appliance to save time and counter space while you’re cooking.

You don’t have to work harder towards fast and healthy cooking all by yourself. Picking up one or more of these fantastic kitchen tools can go a long way in keeping your meals nice, quick, and easy!
